· Step 1: Remove Glass. To keep from breaking the precut pieces of glass, remove them from the package using an X-acto knife.

· Step 2: Foiling the Glass -Using the 7/32” copper foil, position the glass in the center of the foil, wrapping the entire piece. Overlap the foil where the ends meet about 1/8”. Foil the inside edge of the frame with 7/32” copper foil.

· Step 3: Burnishing the Foil

Use a fid, Lathkin or smooth roller to burnish the foil. Burnishing smoothes the edges of the foil and adheres the sticky side of the copper foil tape to the glass. Lay the ring on your work surface and hold it in place with push pins, then lay of the prefoil glass pieces inside the ring so that the Light House and Rocks the outer edges of the ring.  Mark the Rocks on the inside of the ring and cut off the excess glass, then foil the edge that will be attached to the ring.

Take a small strip of foil and wrap it from the inside edge of the ring outward making sure it is firmly burnished it to the ring where ever the glass touches and should be secured to the ring..  The reposition the glass pieces tightly together again with the ring and use the push pins to hold everything in place.

· Step 4: Fluxing the Panel - Using a flux brush, apply the flux to the copper foil lines. Flux comes in a liquid or paste form. The flux etches the copper, which allows it to accept the solder.

· Step 5: Soldering the Panel & Cleanup - Tack-solder at the joints to keep the pieces of glass from moving. Run a smooth, rounded bead on the front and back of the panel. Solder panel to the quick frame.

· Step 6:  Clean

· Step 7:  Apply Patina

After applying wait to develop the color to the desired effect and then reclean the entire project.

· Step 8:  Finishing Compound

Give your solder and glass a bright, even, durable finish to protect against tarnish.
