Step 4: Foil Freedom Heart Pieces
Use 7/32” copper foil to foil all bevel pieces,
using the Black Backed foil. Overlap the foil where the ends meet about 1/8”. Use a fid or lathkin to burnish the foil. Burnishing smoothes the edges of the foil and adheres the sticky side of the copper foil tape to the glass.
|
Step 5: Tack Solder
Fit all beveled pieces together and hold in place with push pins. Use a flux brush to apply flux to the copper foil lines
in the center where they meet. Flux etches the copper foil, which allows it to accept the solder. Keep the pieces of glass from moving by tack-soldering each joint.
|
Step 6: Twisted Wire Frame
Use twisted wire to frame the panel. Cut 1 piece of twisted wire
to fit around the entire length of the Freedom Heart.
Flux twisted wire and outside edge foil. Lightly solder
the wire to the panel.
|
|
Step 7: Attach Hangers
Solder the 3 ¼” preformed
metal rings on each side of at the tip of the heart.
At the top of the heart, bend the glass hanger in half
and tack solder to the twisted wire frame and the top of
the heart.
Clean the back side of the small glass
stars, dry and apply Triolyse glue to droop loops and
the backside of the glass stars, centered.
(We positioned our drop loops
at the tip of the stars). The glue with reach
it's maximum strength in 6 hours. (We recommend leaving
it dry at least an hour before attempting the next
step.)

the Tips & Tricks for using Triolyse Glue)
|
Step 8: Attach Small
Stars
Tie the fishing line to each of the 3 smaller rings
and cut to desired length so that the out side ones are
the same length and the center one will keep the stars
spaced away from touching others.
Step
9:
Cleanup, Patina and Hang
Clean with soap and water. Use black patina to turn the solder lines black and rinse with water and dry. A glass wax can be used if desired to polish and enhance the glass and color of the patina.
Attach chain to the hangers.
