Materials:

Clean Up Supplies:

· Cloth with very little lint (old T-shirt)

Step 1:  Remove Glass

To keep from breaking the precut pieces of glass, remove them from the package using an X-acto knife.

Step 2: - Foil Glass Pieces

Use 7/32” silver backed copper foil to foil all bevel pieces. Position the glass in the center of the foil, wrapping the entire piece. Overlap the foil where the ends meet about 1/8”. Use a fid or lathkin to burnish the foil. Burnishing smoothes the edges of the foil and adheres the sticky side of the copper foil tape to the glass. 

Step 4: Assemble Hearts

Assemble and solder 4 hearts. Hold the individual pieces of the bevel heart in place with push pins. Use a flux brush to apply flux to the copper foil lines. Flux etches the copper foil, which allows it to accept the solder. Keep the pieces of glass from moving by tack-soldering each joint. Run a smooth, rounded bead on the front and back of each bevel heart. Tin the outer edge each heart.

Step 5:  Assemble Candle Holder

Use a fixture of wood blocks or wedgies to help hold the candle holder sides in place while soldering. Tack solder heart bevels where they touch to form a 4 sided box. Solder each heart bottom to the 4 x 4” bevel.

Step 6: Finishing

Clean with soap and water. If desired, use black patina to turn the solder lines black and rinse with water and dry.  A glass wax can be used of desired.
