Step 1: Foil Nuggets and Jewel
Use 7/32” black backed copper foil to foil nuggets and jewel. Position the glass in the center of the foil, wrapping the entire piece. Overlap the foil where the ends meet about 1/8”. Use a fid or lathkin to burnish the foil. Burnishing smoothes the edges of the foil and adheres the sticky side of the copper foil tape to the glass.
Step 2: Assemble and Solder
Tin all nuggets and jewel. Arrange nuggets, jewel, and glass hangers as shown in picture and solder at each place where nuggets, jewel, and glass hanger touch. Solder both sides of the suncatcher.
Step 3: Wire Hanger
Cut a piece of wire 1 ½” long. Form a loop with ends and solder to the top of the suncatcher.
Step 4: Cleanup and Patina
Clean with soap and water. If desired, use black patina to turn the solder lines black and rinse with water and dry.
