Step 1 - Remove Glass
To keep from breaking the precut pieces of glass, remove them from the package using an X-acto knife.

Step 2 - Preparation
· Clean Glass:  using Alcohol or Dish Washing Detergent. Then dry and set aside on a clean piece of paper or cardboard.

· Clean & Prep Kiln:
    · Apply Kiln Wash (Shelf Primer)
    · Cut Shelf Paper to fit shelf
    · Place Kiln Shelf Supports, Shelf and Shelf Paper into Kiln

Step 3 - Decorate Base
Using just a tiny spec of Elmer's™ Glue, position the pre-cut bumble bee in the center of the 4 x 4 piece of fusible glass. Sprinkle yellow and black frit on the base as a background being careful not to get any on the bumble bee.

Tip: It is important to note that you need to make sure to touch all glass pieces by the outer edges to avoid finger oil or prints on the surface of the glass
Step 4  - Place into Kiln: Using fingers around the outer edge of the glass base or better yet wear latex gloves place on the kiln shelf.

Step 5 - Prepare Fused Project:  If possible, leave the kiln sit unopened until the next day so your project has had plenty of time to anneal back to room temperature  and it is ready to use. Use abrasives on any rough edges you need to smooth.
Step 6 - Grind and Measure:  If necessary grind the fused bumble bee base so that all sides are the same size.
Step 7 - Make Border Pattern

Place the fused bumble bee on a piece of paper and draw around it.  This gives you a box the exact size of the your bumble bee to draw a border from.  Draw another box 1 ½” from the first box. To miter the corners of the border use a ruler to connect the corners of the boxes.

Step 8 – Cut Border
Use the pattern created in Step 7 to cut the border pieces out of the background glass of your choice and grind the edges.

Step 9 - Foil Glass Pieces
Use 7/32” black backed copper foil to foil the fused bumble bee and background pieces. Position the glass in the center of the foil, wrapping the entire piece. Overlap the foil where the ends meet about 1/8”. Use a fid or lathkin to burnish the foil. Burnishing smoothes the edges of the foil and adheres the sticky side of the copper foil tape to the glass.

Step 10 - Assemble and Solder

Fit all pieces together and hold in place with push pins.  Use a flux brush to apply flux to the copper foil lines. Flux etches the copper foil, which allows it to accept the solder.  Keep the pieces of glass from moving by tack-soldering each joint. Run a smooth, rounded bead on the front and back of the panel. Tin the outer edge of the panel.

Step 11 – Twisted Wire Frame

Use twisted wire to frame the panel.  Cut 4 pieces of twisted wire the length of each side of the panel.  Flux twisted wire and outside foiled edge.  Lightly solder the wire to the panel.

Step 12 – Attach Hangers

Solder two ¼” preformed metal rings on each side of the top of the panel.

Step 13: Cleanup and Patina
Clean with soap and water. Use black patina to turn the solder lines black and rinse with water and dry. A glass wax can be used if desired to polish and enhance the glass and color of the patina. Attach chain to the hangers.
