Clean Up Supplies:

· Rubbing Alcohol, Dish Washing Detergent
· Cloth with very little lint (old T-shirt)

Step 1 - Preparation
· Clean Glass:  using Alcohol or Dish Washing Detergent. Then dry and set aside on a clean piece of paper or cardboard.

· Clean & Prep Kiln:
    · Apply Kiln Wash (Shelf Primer)
    · Cut Shelf Paper to fit shelf
    · Place Kiln Shelf Supports, Shelf and Shelf Paper into Kiln

Step 2: Creating shapes

Black Spades: Is created using black hearts positioned upside down and a small scrap of black glass for the stem positioned at the deep V of the heart.

Black Clover: Is created using black hearts positioned with the deep V's facing inward.  The stem is a small piece of black scrap wider at the top and the top is cut at an angle.

Red Diamonds: Are created using red Jeweler's Diamond.  Larger: Cut straight across the widest portion of two Jeweler's diamonds, this gives you to triangle.  Position them back to back to form the diamond.  Using the scraps or another Jeweler's diamond cut at angle to create small triangles and repeat by placing 2 together on their widest edge.

NOTE: Use a small drop of Elmer's glass to hold the glass shapes in position.  Make sure to NOT place and of the glass shapes within a 1/4 of the edges prior to firing.

Step 3  - Place into Kiln: Using Fingers around outer edges of the fusible glass project or better yet wear latex gloves, pick up and place the project on the kiln shelf paper/shelf.   Leave a minimum of 1/2" (13 mm) space between each project to ensure they do not touch and fuse together.

Step 4 - Prepare Fused Project:  If possible, leave the kiln sit unopened until the next day so your project has had plenty of time to anneal back to room temperature  and it is ready to use. Use abrasives on any rough edges you need to smooth.
Step 5 - Grind and Measure:  Each shamrock square should be ground and measure exactly 4 inches square prior to foiling.
Step 6 - Cut Glass Re-Strip and Solder:

See special notes below before proceeding to  See Soldering Techniques in the Glass Tips & Tips Section.

SPECIAL NOTE:  Cut and bend Copper restrip before soldering

Use of restrip is recommended to reinforce a larger foiled project. See photo for suggested positioning of restrip.

In this project we cut:

Qty 2 - 12 inch strips to use across the width of the top and bottom between the beveled and fused panel.

- Qty 1 - 10 inch strip for use down the center, bending a 1 inch section at each end but in opposite directions, like an elongated Z shape.

- Qty 2 - 6 inch strips for use across in the middle for each fused panel.

2nd SPECIAL NOTE:  Tack Solder

We recommend that you tack soder 3 sides of the outside bevels and make sure they are square.  Use your stained glass nails to hold the piece in position and for leverage as you push and work on the inside pieces together along with the re-strip between them. Tack soder each piece together and tack solder at each end of a piece of re-strip.  Position the bevels for your last side check for squareness and tack soder.

Then proceed to final soldering.

Step 7: Attach Rings & Chain for Hanger

Solder each of the 2 rings at the top, inner joint and the attach the hanging chain to each ring to hang the panel.

Step 8: Cleanup and Patina
Use Patina to darken the piece if desired. Clean the entire piece with soap and water.  Finally, a glass wax can be used if desired to polish and enhance the glass and solder.
