Other Materials:
· small scrap of blue glass
· Flux
· Solder
· Black Patina

· Step 1:  Cut and Grind Glass

Cut a piece of blue glass 1" x 2" and 1" x 1", grind edges

· Step 2: Foil Glass Pieces
Use 7/32” black backed copper foil to foil all glass, nugget, and bevels. Position the glass in the center of the foil, wrapping the entire piece. Overlap the foil where the ends meet about 1/8”. Use a fid or lathkin to burnish the foil. Burnishing smoothes the edges of the foil and adheres the sticky side of the copper foil tape to the glass.

· Step 3: Assemble and Solder
Assemble and Solder
Assemble all pieces together using the project photo as a guide and hold in place with push pins. Use a flux brush to apply flux to the copper foil lines. Flux etches the copper foil, which allows it to accept the solder. Keep the pieces of glass from moving by tack-soldering each joint. Run a smooth, rounded bead on the front and back of the panel. Tin the outer edge of all exposed foil. Tack solder the Curly Q’s in place. Solder both sides.
· Step 4:  Twisted Wire Frame
Use twisted wire to frame the suncatcher. Starting at the end of one of the suncatcher sides bend the twisted wire over the top and down the other side and cut. Flux twisted wire and outside edge foil. Lightly solder the wire to the panel.

· Step 5: Attach Hangers
Attach a Curly Q hanger to each side of the suncatcher with solder.

· Step 6:  Cleanup and Patina
Clean with soap and water. Use black patina to turn the solder lines black and rinse with water and dry. A glass wax can be used if desired to polish and enhance the glass and color of the patina.
