PUMPKIN (Kid Friendly) GLASS MOSAIC (Glue)

NOTE: Our fusible glass or stained glass can also be used in any mosaic projects.

You can create kid friendly projects easily with our precut glass because of the smooth finished edges and use of clear glue.

· 1/2 Square Feet of clear Plexiglas (optional)
Used for the background to glue on the pumpkin if you want the light to shine thru the glass. You could also glue on foam board or wood for a backing.

Note: You may want to consider Plexiglas because them the piece could be hung in a window or placed in front of a light or candle.

· Step 1: Remove Glass. To keep from breaking the precut pieces of glass, remove them from the package using child safety scissors or pre cut an opening useing an X-acto knife and allow them to peel open the protective plastic. Use our precut glass with you mosaic tiles too.

· Step 2: If using a Wood Base, Prepare the Back and Sides

1. Determine the best/smoothest side of the wood base. This will be the back of the mosaic mirror. Paint the back and sides of the wood base with blue latex paint.

2. Waterproof the Front of the Wood Base (Mosaic Side) by mixing one part white glue with one part water. Coat the unpainted side of the board with the solution. This will provide a waterproof protective barrier between the board and the mosaic piece. This process prevents the wood base from warping.

· Step 4 (optional): Attach Hanging Hardware (before handing over to children)

For Plexiglas: You can glue on a cord or using a small drill bit drill holes for top two corners.

For Wood: On the painted side of the wood base, measure approximately one inch from the top edge and continue to secure a sawtooth hanger to the wood base.

· Step 5: Decorative item prep (before handing over to children)

There is plenty of creative freedom on what can be glued to the pumpkin to make each one unique!

For Glass Gems: We recommend using a glass cutter & breaker to snap some in half and lightly hit the cut edge with a grinder before distribution as supplies for children.

Other suggestions: translucent acrylic paints, pipe cleaners, glitter, and other common arts and craft supplies.

· Step 6: Glue the Mosaic Pieces

We suggest that you instruct the students initially to help them place the first piece in the center of the backing to insure balance for weight to allow the finished piece to be hung or balance in standing position. Then after the first piece is in place they also can easily follow it and work out from the center on the left and right placing their other pumpkin pieces and add their creative touches without much need for supervision (other than not gluing each things to each other, (-:)

Tip: Resist grinding your mosaic tiles. Grout will not cover chipped glass edges.
