· Step 1:
Remove Glass. To keep from breaking the precut
pieces of glass, remove them from the package
using an X-acto knife.
Use our precut glass with you mosaic tiles.
|
|
|
· Step
2: Trace along the bottom edge of the mold onto clear Contact Paper™
(contact paper is available from home supply and grocery stores). Using a scissors, trim contact paper to fit
the inside of the mold. Put the trimmed contact paper to the side. Note:
contact paper should be smooth and free of creases.
·
Step 3:
Using a paper towel or napkin, apply a thin coat of petroleum jelly along the inner surface of the mold.
·
Step 4:
Face side up, cut the plastic covering of the pre-cut
glass kit around the edges only. Lift of the
plastic leaving the peaces of glass laid out in place on
the card board backing. Place additional mosaic
peaces and/or glass jewels around the pre-cut glass to
create the desired effect. Peel the backing off the contact paper and place
over the glass as laid out and rub the contact paper
until it adheres to the glass "only", not the
card board. Some people prefer to place the
contact paper in the mold sticky side up, and then hand
place the peaces of glass on the contact paper. If
you choose to do the last choice. Then place the
pattern in the bottom of the mold face up to assist you
in place the glass in order.
|
·
Step 5:
Following the pattern, make sure all the pieces are placed slightly apart (approximately 1/8 inch) and
also in from the mold’s edge to allow room for cement. Note:
make sure the desired side of the glass is face down in
the mold.
·
Step 6:
If you have not place the glass into the bottom of the
mold, place an additional peace of card board over the
glass so you now have card board top and bottom with the
glass cover with contact paper in-between. Hold
tightly and flip over. Then slide the sheet of
contact paper into the mold. Press any glass that
shifted firmly onto the contact paper.
Note:
Glass jewels and small decorative pieces of cut glass
mosaics are heavier and makes them best to add after you
have glass kit positioned in the mold but don't forget
to place them face down.
·
Step 7:
Mix the Diamond Crete™, desired color gray. following the directions and precautions on the cement label. If you
are using a fine grade out door cement, you may wish to
add color to the cement by adding Colorants to the water, and then pour mixture into the cement.
·
Step 8: When mixed, pour cement slowly and evenly into the mold
and try to be careful not to move glass. You may even
want to use an old soup ladle to put in the initial
layer over the glass and then pour the rest in slowly. Do not move the mold while the cement is drying.
|
|
·
Step 9:
Tap the sides of the mold for two to three minutes to release any air bubbles in the cement.
Do not pick up and drop to release air bubbles.
·
Step 10: Wait approximately thirty minutes to one hour (time may vary due to
climate or Diamond Crete™ instructions) for the cement to harden. The cement will warm as it
hardens and once it has cooled it will firm up (there
will be no visible water on the surface) and can be
removed from the mold.
·
Step 11: It is important to remove the stone and not leave it in
the mold. Turn the mold over and lift up the edges of the
mold to help it release the stepping stone after several gentle pulls on either side of the mold.
·
Step 12: Peel off the contact paper. Clean off any excess cement covering the glass. You
can clean the cement with a paper towel, sponge or X-acto™ Knife
and a little water. Buff the glass using a soft cloth and 0000 steel
wool.
·
Step 13: If any air bubbles blemishes the surface of the cement, fill in by mixing up a small amount of cement into a paste and
rub it into the holes in a circular motion. Any marks or contact paper lines on the
surface of the cement can be smoothed out using a fine sandpaper.
·
Step 14:
Allow stone to cure for 24-48 hours before moving.
Tip:
Do Not grind your glass pieces. Cement and/or grout will not cover chipped glass edges.
