· Step 1: Remove Glass. To keep from breaking the precut pieces of glass, remove them from the package using an X-acto knife. Use our precut glass with you mosaic tiles.

· Step 2 Prepare the Back and Sides of the Wood Base

Determine the best/smoothest side of the wood base. This will be the back of the mosaic mirror. Paint the back and sides of the wood base with blue latex paint.

· Step 3: Waterproof the Front of the Wood Base (Mosaic Side)

Mix one part white glue with one part water. Coat the unpainted side of the board with the solution. This will provide a waterproof protective barrier between the board and the mosaic piece. This process prevents the wood base from warping.

· Step 4:: Attach Hanging Hardware

On the painted side of the wood base, measure approximately one inch from the top edge and continue to secure a sawtooth hanger to the wood base.

· Step 5: Enlarge/Transfer Pattern

Enlarge pattern 150% and transfer pattern to the mosaic side of the wood base using carbon paper.

· Step 6: Cut and Prepare Mirror

Cut the oval mirror according to the pattern. Make your cuts as exact as possible to minimize grinding. Lay the mirror face down on newspaper and seal the back and edges with a mirror sealant.

Tip: Clear paint or clear finger nail polish also work well to seal the mirror.

· Step 7: Protect and Attach Mirror

Cover the front of the mirror with Sandblast Resist and trim the excess. This will protect the mirror from scratches during the mosaic grouting process. Glue mirror to the board using E6000 or any strong adhesive.

· Step 8: Glue the Mosaic Pieces

Glue the precut glass pelican, glass stars, and glass anchors as shown on the pattern with mosaic glue. Fill in remaining areas with your choice of dark blue, light blue, and accent color mosaic glass tiles until the design is complete. You can make mosaic pieces by scoring the glass at ½” intervals and then breaking. Use mosaic nippers to create the mosaic tiles from the ½” strips. After the design is complete allow the project to dry for 24 hours.

Tip: Resist grinding your mosaic tiles. Grout will not cover chipped glass edges.

· Step 9: Grouting

Place the project on newspaper. Mix grout according to manufacture’s instructions. The grout should be the consistency of a thick milk shake. Cover the rope area of the glass pelican stump with masking tape to keep grout from this area. Spread the grout with your gloved hand and press grout into all crevices. Work the outer edge and corners easily to form a rounded grout edge. Wait 20 minutes to allow the grout to set up.

· Step 10: Cleanup

Carefully start wiping the grout with a lightly dampened sponge being careful not to pull grout out of the crevices. Rinse sponge frequently. Remember it is import the sponge be as dry as possible. After the excess grout has been removed allow the grout to dry for another 45 minutes. Using a soft cloth and 0000 steel wool, buff the glass and grout and use a razor blade to remove spots of dried glass. Glue rope in the un-grouted area of the glass pelican stump.

Tip:
Resist grinding your mosaic tiles. Grout will not cover chipped glass edges.
