Small Fused Project step-by-step instructions:

Clean Up Supplies:

· Rubbing Alcohol, Dish Washing Detergent
· Cloth with very little lint (old T-shirt)

Step 1:  Preparation
Clean Glass using Alcohol or Dish Washing Detergent. Then dry and set aside on a clean piece of paper or cardboard.

 Clean & Prep Kiln:
    · Apply Kiln Wash (Shelf Primer)
    · Cut Shelf Paper to fit shelf
    · Place Kiln Shelf Supports, Shelf and Shelf Paper into Kiln

Cut out decals, remove tissue cover and set aside

Step 2: Prepare Project for Fusible Glass Decals
It is important to follow the instructions that come with your decals! Keeping you glass free of oil from your fingers is important.  Place decal in a small amount of distilled water for 20 seconds. Using a pair of tweezers take the decal out of the water when it starts to curl.  Place the decal where you want it and slide the decal off the paper backing. It is important to remove any air from under the decal.  Remove all air bubbles and smooth decal to the surface of the glass. Let dry completely, over night is preferable, before the final firing. Even the smallest amount of moisture can steam the decal from the glass surface, resulting in a partial transfer.

Step 3: Put Glass project together

Using a toothpick or plastic Cocktail fork to put 3 "tiny" drop of Elmer's glue near the edge of the glass to adhere the black and clear top piece of jewelry glass together. You do not need to use the glue but if you are making many pieces of fused glass jewelry at the same time it will make you life easier when moving or positioning them in the kiln.

Make sure to position each piece of glass evenly on top of the other and let sit for a few minutes.

Step 5:  Place into Kiln
Using Fingers around outer edges of the fusible glass project or better yet wear latex gloves, pick up and place the project on the kiln shelf paper/shelf.   Leave a minimum of 1/2" (13 mm) space between each project to ensure they do not touch and fuse together.

Step 6: Kiln Firing Process- Full Fuse

SMALL PROJECTS  ·  FULL FUSE  ·  2 LAYERS

Process Temp/Min Desired Temp Soak Temp Action
Increase/Temp   30°F/ 18°C 1,000°F / 535°C 1 Min. Remove Vent
Increase/Temp   Full Speed 1,400°F / 815°C 10+ or 10- Min.  Observe
Flash/Cool Highest Speed 1,100°F / 590°C 0 Min. Open & Close Lid
Hold/Temp   5°F/ 3°C 955°F / 513°C 10 min. Hold Fire
Cool/Temp   Do Nothing 100°F / 38°C N/A DO NOT LOOK

Step 7: Prepare Fused Project
If possible, leave the kiln sit unopened until the next day so your project has had plenty of time to anneal back to room temperature  and it is ready to use. Use abrasives on any rough edges you need to smooth.  If you do find you need to do a lot of abrasive or use a grinder you may need to refire the finished piece to polish the edges.

Step 8: Adding Jewelry Findings

Attach the metal finding using the Triolyse glue.  Make sure the glass is clean and dry and when placing it on the center, back side.  Maximum strength is reached after 6 hours. (Read the Tips & Tricks for using Triolyse Glue)

Note: The earrings are are using Pierced Earring Reinforce Discs.  Glass earrings can be heavier than most earrings.  A single layer glass will not necessarily require earring reinforce discs but 2 layers would require reinforce discs to keep the hearing laying nicely on the ear and not sagging.
