Step 4: Prepare Project for Fusible Glass Decals
It is important to follow the instructions that come
with your decals! Keeping you glass free of oil from your
fingers is important. Cut the decals leaving a
little white edge. Place in a small amount of clean
water and using a pair of tweezers take the decal out of
the water when it starts to curl. Using a tooth
pick, hold slide the decal of the paper back and position
on the glass where you want it. It is important to remove
any air from under the decal. Some people like to
use a squeegee but if you use too much water the decal may
slide around (if yes blot with the corner of a paper
towel) You can also use the side of your tooth pick
to smooth out the decal. Let dry completely, over
night is preferable, before the final firing. Even the
smallest amount of moisture can steam the decal from the
glass surface, resulting in a partial transfer.

Step 5: Firing your Fusible Glass Decals
This
project used the GOLD LOW FIRE Glass Decals. Ramp up your
kiln slowly while vented, until your reach 1,000 °F,
then close your kiln and fire until temperature reaches
1,075 to 1,140 °F.
Ramping slowly is much better than a quick fire to allow
plenty of time for burn off and venting. Then turn
off kiln and leave the kiln sit unopened
until the next day so your project has had plenty of
time to anneal back to room temperature

GLASS TIPS (for Decals):

Keep your decals stored in a dry place on their side and
not on top of one another.

Keep your Hi Fire Glass Decals and your Low Fire Glass
Decals separately stored, perhaps in well marked
envelopes.

Mark each envelop with the colors/types as well.
Example: Gold - Low Fire Glass Decals,
Platinum - High Fire Glass Decals, etc.

Step 6: Place into Kiln Using Fingers around outer edges
of the fusible glass project or better yet wear latex
gloves, pick up and place the project on the kiln shelf
paper/shelf. Leave a minimum of 1/2"
(13 mm) space between each project to ensure they do not
touch and fuse together.
