Small Fused Project step-by-step instructions:

Clean Up Supplies:

· Rubbing Alcohol, Dish Washing Detergent
· Cloth with very little lint (old T-shirt)

· Step 1 - Preparation
· Clean Glass using Alcohol or Dish Washing Detergent. Then dry and set aside on a clean piece of paper or cardboard.

· Clean & Prep Kiln:
    · Apply Kiln Wash (Shelf Primer)
    · Cut Shelf Paper to fit shelf
    · Place Kiln Shelf Supports, Shelf and Shelf Paper into Kiln

· Step 2: Put Glass project together

CUT THE BLUE LONG OVAL IN HALF use a Toothpick or plastic Cocktail fork to put 3 "tiny" drop of glue to adhere it to the heart.  Place the tip of the clear Jeweler's Diamond on top of the heart and position between the two pieces of blue so they meet.  Then using a marker draw the edges of the lower point of the heart onto the clear diamond to use as cutting marks.  Cut off the excess Jeweler's diamond but do not glue it yet to the heart.

Cut a piece of Dicro slide and adhere to the back side (the side that will be facing the white heart. When the Dicro Slide is dry, place a small dot of glue on the heart and position the clear piece with the dicro slide down.

Note: You do not need to use the glue but if you are making many pieces of fused glass jewelry at the same time it will make you life easier when moving or positioning them in the kiln.

· Step 3Apply Decal

Cut you decal and apply to the clear diamond's jewelers piece and leave dry overnight.

HOT GLASS TIPS (for Decals):

- Keep your decals storedd in a dry place on their side and not on top of one another.

- Keep your Hi Fire Glass Decals and your Low Fire Glass Decals separately stored, perhaps in well marked envelopes.

- Mark each envelope with the colors/types as well.  Example:  Gold - Low Fire Glass Decals,  Platinum - High Fire Glass Decals, etc.

· Step 4:  Place into Kiln Using Fingers around outer edges of the fusible glass project or better yet wear latex gloves, pick up and place the project on the kiln shelf paper/shelf.   Leave a minimum of 1/2" (13 mm) space between each project to ensure they do not touch and fuse together.

Tip: This project used the GOLD LOW FIRE Glass Decals. Use Fire Schedule below but remember when ramping up your kiln for any decal to vent, until your reach 1,000 °F, then close your kiln and complete the firing schedule.

Special Note: When using Low Fire Gold Decals they do fire better at lower temperatures, 1,075 to 1,140 °F.  So trying to only do one firing to a full fuse may not produce the quality desired for a Low Fire Gold Decal.   You may want to do a second firing versus trying to fire everything at once during a Full Fuse. We recommend doing a test fire for full fuse to see if you like the results.  If you do not get good results due to the higher temperatures during a Full Fuse, then you will have to apply the Low Fire Gold decal and fire a second time, ramping up slowly to 1,075 to 1,140 °F for a better result.

· Step 5: Kiln Firing Process- Full Fuse

SMALL PROJECTS  ·  FULL FUSE  ·  2 LAYERS

Process Temp/Min Desired Temp Soak Temp Action
Increase/Temp   30°F/ 18°C 1,000°F / 535°C 1 Min. Remove Vent
Increase/Temp   Full Speed 1,400°F / 815°C 10+ or 10- Min.  Observe
Flash/Cool Highest Speed 1,100°F / 590°C 0 Min. Open & Close Lid
Hold/Temp   5°F/ 3°C 955°F / 513°C 10 min. Hold Fire
Cool/Temp   Do Nothing 100°F / 38°C N/A DO NOT LOOK

· Step 6: Prepare Fused Project
If possible, leave the kiln sit unopened until the next day so your project has had plenty of time to anneal back to room temperature  and it is ready to use. Use abrasives on any rough edges you need to smooth.  If you do find you need to do a lot of abrasive or use a grinder you may need to refire the finished piece to polish the edges.

· Step 7: Adding Jewelry Findings

This project uses a Jewelry Bail which is glued and each piece of glass is glued to the solid metal surface in each chain link using Triolyse glue but you should consider using Epoxy for added strength since wrist's often take a lot of contact.
