Small Fused Project step-by-step instructions:

Clean Up Supplies:

· Rubbing Alcohol, Dish Washing Detergent
· Cloth with very little lint (old T-shirt)

· Step 1: Remove Glass. To keep from breaking the precut pieces of glass, remove them from the package using an X-acto knife.

· Step 2 - Preparation
· Clean Glass using Alcohol or Dish Washing Detergent. Then dry and set aside on a clean piece of paper or cardboard.

· Clean & Prep Kiln:
    · Apply Kiln Wash (Shelf Primer)
    · Cut Shelf Paper to fit shelf
    · Place Kiln Shelf Supports, Shelf and Shelf Paper into Kiln

There are 3 basic steps to prepare the glass.

1. Start with Base Color, black or white.

2. Cut a circle of your choice of Dicro Slide ™ using a paper hole punch. Place circle on top of base, then add clear glass on top.

3. Cut your High Fire Decal in circles to cover the entire surface of each clear piece. You can use one piece to trace on the back of the decal for cutting size.

There are 3 basic steps to prepare the glass.

1. Start with Base Color, black or white.

2. Place the glass shape on the back side of the Dicro Slide ™ and trace the shape of the oval, 11 times.

3. Place the glass shape on the back side of the  High Fire Decal and trace the shape of the oval, 11 times.  Note: make sure you have them going the direction you want with the pattern.  Our project used a horizontal layout for all pieces.

Follow the instructions for soaking and applying the decals and dicro slide.  Dicro Slide goes on top of the Black or White piece and put the Hi Fire Decal on top of the clear glass.

4. After the Dicro Slide is fairly dry and not moving, set the clear with the Decal up as the top.  Note: if you place a small drop of moisture on the bottom of your clear piece before setting on the dicro slide base and let them sit, we have found they will dry together and thus eliminate the need for any glue to adhere them together.  But, make sure the two pieces are lines up evenly.

5. After about 30 minutes to an hour, or wait until the next day, take your X-acto™ Knife and trim off any excess Dicro Slide ™ or decal by using a down ward angle so as not to lift off any product.  This produces a nice clean edge with a consistent color and gives a more refined appearance.

· Step 4: Note:  It is important to note that you need to make sure to touch all glass pieces by the outer edges to avoid finger oil or prints on the surface of the glass from your fingers.

· Step 5:  Place into Kiln Using Fingers around outer edges of the fusible glass project or better yet wear latex gloves, pick up and place the project on the kiln shelf paper/shelf.   Leave a minimum of 1/2" (13 mm) space between each project to ensure they do not touch and fuse together.

Ramping slowly is much better than a quick fire to allow plenty of time for burn off and venting.  Then turn off kiln and leave the kiln sit unopened until the next day so your project has had plenty of time to anneal back to room temperature

HOT GLASS TIPS (for Decals):

- Keep your decals stored in a dry place on their side and not on top of one another.

- Keep your Hi Fire Glass Decals and your Low Fire Glass Decals separately stored, perhaps in well marked envelopes.

- Mark each envelope with the colors/types as well.  Example:  Gold - Low Fire Glass Decals,  Platinum - High Fire Glass Decals, etc.

· Step 6: Kiln Firing Process- Full Fuse

SMALL PROJECTS  ·  FULL FUSE  ·  2 LAYERS

Process Temp/Min Desired Temp Soak Temp Action
Increase/Temp   30°F/ 18°C 1,000°F / 535°C 1 Min. Remove Vent
Increase/Temp   Full Speed 1,400°F / 815°C 10+ or 10- Min.  Observe
Flash/Cool Highest Speed 1,100°F / 590°C 0 Min. Open & Close Lid
Hold/Temp   5°F/ 3°C 955°F / 513°C 10 min. Hold Fire
Cool/Temp   Do Nothing 100°F / 38°C N/A DO NOT LOOK

· Step 7: Prepare Fused Project
If possible, leave the kiln sit unopened until the next day so your project has had plenty of time to anneal back to room temperature  and it is ready to use. Use abrasives on any rough edges you need to smooth.  If you do find you need to do a lot of abrasive or use a grinder you may need to refire the finished piece to polish the edges.

· Step 8: Adding Jewelry Findings

This project uses a Gold Bracelet Jewelry Bail which is glued and each piece of glass is glued to the solid metal surface in each chain link using Triolyse glue but you should consider using Epoxy for added strength since wrist's often take a lot of contact.
