· Note: Project can be done using a variety of Fusible Glass Decals or Dicro Slide ™ 
(but not over one another as they are both metalic based).

Glass Decal Category

· Fusible Glass Decals pick your pattern in High Fire Gold and/or Platinum to create you designs for the leaf (Dicro Slide was used on the Apple).  If you are going to fire the glass as a full fuse, then you must use all High Fire Decals.  If performing a Tac Fuse you could use the low fire but should not fire at the same time as the high fire decals. For best results do not mix high fire and low fire fusible decals.

· Dicro Slide ™ (Dicro Paper) was used for the curves on the tree.

· NOTE 2 - Optional Scrap Dichroic small pieces instead of decals could also be used.

Small Fused Project step-by-step instructions:

Clean Up Supplies:

· Rubbing Alcohol, Dish Washing Detergent
· Cloth with very little lint (old T-shirt)

· Step 1: Remove Glass. To keep from breaking the precut pieces of glass, remove them from the package using an X-acto knife.

· Step 2 - Preparation
· Clean Glass using Alcohol or Dish Washing Detergent. Then dry and set aside on a clean piece of paper or cardboard. 

· Clean & Prep Kiln: 
    · Apply Kiln Wash (Shelf Primer)
    · Cut Shelf Paper to fit shelf
    · Place Kiln Shelf Supports, Shelf and Shelf Paper into Kiln

We did not show a glass Christmas Tree with the Snow Flake decals because once they are placed upon the tree they disappear on the darker glass.  So, it is very important that you pay attention to placement of your decals by holding the piece up to the light after each one is added.

Glass Christmas Tree Pre-Fired

Low Fire Snowflake Decal was used on one glass Christmas tree.  On the other glass Christmas tree scraps of Dicro Slide ™ were used.

TIP: Dicro Slide ™ and Scrap Dichroic is less sensitive in application and can be fired the same day.   

· Step 4: Note:  It is important to note that you need to make sure to touch all glass pieces by the outer edges to avoid finger oil or prints on the surface of the glass from your fingers when using decals.

· Step 5:  Place into Kiln Using Fingers around outer edges of the fusible glass project or better yet wear latex gloves, pick up and place the project on the kiln shelf paper/shelf.   Leave a minimum of 1/2" (13 mm) space between each project to ensure they do not touch and fuse together.

· Step 6: Kiln Firing Process- Full Fuse

· Step 7: Firing your Fusible Glass Decals

When using Glass Decals. Ramp up your kiln slowly while vented, until your reach 1,000 °F, then close your kiln and fire until temperature reaches 1,075 to 1,140 °F.  Ramping slowly is much better than a quick fire to allow plenty of time for burn off and venting.  Then turn off kiln and leave the kiln sit unopened until the next day so your project has had plenty of time to anneal back to room temperature

- Keep your decals stored in a dry place on their side and not on top of one another.

- Keep your Hi Fire Glass Decals and your Low Fire Glass Decals separately stored, perhaps in well marked envelopes.

- Mark each envelope with the colors/types as well.  Example:  Gold - Low Fire Glass Decals,  Platinum - High Fire Glass Decals, etc.

· Step 8: Prepare Fused Project
If possible, leave the kiln sit unopened until the next day so your project has had plenty of time to anneal back to room temperature  and it is ready to use. Use abrasives on any rough edges you need to smooth.  If you do find you need to do a lot of abrasive or use a grinder you may need to refire the finished piece to polish the edges. 

· Step 9: Attach Tie-Tac or Pin Back.
It is important to judge the weight of the finished piece.  You may find that you should attach 2 Tie-Tacs so the weight of the glass piece will not pull a hole in the clothing.   Or if using one, you should attach approximately 1/3 rd of the way from the top of the glass pin so it will allow gravity to let the weight of the glass lay flat. 

Alternant choice:

Attach the Metal Pin Bar

Using the Triolyse glue.  Make sure the glass is clean and dry and when placing it on the center, back side.  Maximum strength is reached after 6 hours. (Read the Tips & Tricks for using Triolyse Glue)
