Clean Up Supplies:

· Rubbing Alcohol, Dish Washing Detergent
· Cloth with very little lint (old T-shirt)

Step 1: Preparation
Lay out pattern of 2 circles across. At each end you will use a half circle and a full circle.

Clean Glass: Using Alcohol or Dish Washing Detergent. Then dry and set aside on a clean piece of paper or cardboard.

Prep Mold: Apply a good coat of kiln wash to the mold set aside to dry.
Clean & Prep Kiln Shelf: Apply Kiln Wash (Shelf Primer) or cut a square of shelf paper to cover the mold and fold the edges under the mold.

Prep Glass Pieces: Cut a small glass circle in half to use at the ends next to a full circle.  Clean pieces and dry.

Cut a strip of clear fusible glass 3 1/4 inches long and approximately 1 1/4 inch wide.

Step 2:  Position Glass:

Using just a tiny spec of Elmer's™ Glue on the sides of each piece, glass against each other, alternating colors and centered on the clear strip.

Tip: It is important to note that you need to make sure to touch all glass pieces by the outer edges when gluing them together to avoid finger oil or prints on the surface of the glass.

Step 3:  Place Project into Kiln: Using Fingers around outer edges of the fusible glass project or better yet wear latex gloves, pick up and place the project on the kiln shelf paper/shelf and run a full fuse.

Step 4:  Full Fuse Use the below firing schedule.

SMALL PROJECTS  ·  FULL FUSE  ·  2 LAYERS

Process Temp/Min Desired Temp Soak Temp Action
Increase/Temp   30°F/ 18°C 1,000°F / 535°C 1 Min. Remove Vent
Increase/Temp   Full Speed 1,400°F / 815°C 10+ or 10- Min.  Observe
Flash/Cool Highest Speed 1,100°F / 590°C 0 Min. Open & Close Lid

Step 5:  Prepare Fused Project for Slumping:  If possible, leave the kiln sit unopened until the next day so your project has had plenty of time to anneal back to room temperature and it is ready for the slump process.  Use abrasives or grind any rough edges you need to smooth.

Step 6: Prepare Slump Process:
Place mold in kiln and place the fused fused project on the mold.  You want the glass to forma  perfect U shape in order to attached the French Barrett clip so it is import to position the glass centered and straight across the mold (at a 90 degree angle). This will make sure the glass do not slump twisted or at angle. The mold is wide enough to accommodate slumping 3 or more pony tail barrettes at the same time.

Step 7: Slump Fuse: Use the below firing schedule to slump

SMALL/MEDIUM PROJECTS  ·  SLUMP

Process Temp/Min Desired Temp Soak Temp Action
Increase/Temp   15°F/ 7°C 1,000°F / 538°C 1 Min. Remove Vent
Increase/Temp   Full Speed 1,430°F / 777°C 10+ or 10- Min.  Observe
Flash/Cool Highest Speed 1,100°F / 593°C 0 Min. Open & Close Lid
Hold/Temp   5°F/ 3°C 955°F / 513°C 30 min. Hold Fire
Decrease/Temp   3°F/ 2°C 750°F / 400°C 1 min. DO NOT LOOK
Cool/Temp   Do Nothing 100°F / 38°C N/A DO NOT LOOK

Step 8: Adding French Barrette Clip

Attach the Metal Barrett finding using the Triolyse glue.  Make sure the glass is clean and dry and when placing it on the center, back side.  We suggest using small clips or even clothes pins to hold the clip in place while drying. Maximum strength is reached after 6 hours. (Read the Tips & Tricks for using Triolyse Glue)
