Small Fused Project step-by-step instructions:

Clean Up Supplies:

· Rubbing Alcohol, Dish Washing Detergent
· Cloth with very little lint (old T-shirt)

· Step 1 - Preparation
· Clean Glass using Alcohol or Dish Washing Detergent. Then dry and set aside on a clean piece of paper or cardboard.

· Clean & Prep Kiln:
    · Apply Kiln Wash (Shelf Primer)
    · Cut Shelf Paper to fit shelf
    · Place Kiln Shelf Supports, Shelf and Shelf Paper into Kiln

· Step 2: Prepare Project for Dicro Slide
Place the large clear base on the backside of the Dicro Slide ™
and draw around the glass.  Cut out the dicro slide and apply to the surface.

· Step 3: Put Glass project together

Use a toothpick or plastic Cocktail fork to put a "tiny" drop of glue to adhere the White Long Oval  to the Clear Base with the Dicro Slide and then put a "tiny" drop of glue to adhere the Clear Top Base to the white glass making a sandwich.

Tip: You could place a few pieces of clear frit on the base glass around the whit glass to hold up the clear cap.  This allows air to escape evenly from the center as the clear cap goes thru the full fusing stage and helps eliminate bubble being trapped.

· Position each piece of glass evenly on top of each other and let sit for a few minutes.

· Step 4:  Place into Kiln Using Fingers around outer edges of the fusible glass project or better yet wear latex gloves, pick up and place the project on the kiln shelf paper/shelf.   Leave a minimum of 1/2" (13 mm) space between each project to ensure they do not touch and fuse together.

· Step 5: Kiln Firing Process- Full Fuse

SMALL PROJECTS  ·  FULL FUSE  ·  2 LAYERS

Process Temp/Min Desired Temp Soak Temp Action
Increase/Temp   30°F/ 18°C 1,000°F / 535°C 1 Min. Remove Vent
Increase/Temp   Full Speed 1,400°F / 815°C 10+ or 10- Min.  Observe
Flash/Cool Highest Speed 1,100°F / 590°C 0 Min. Open & Close Lid
Hold/Temp   5°F/ 3°C 955°F / 513°C 10 min. Hold Fire
Cool/Temp   Do Nothing 100°F / 38°C N/A DO NOT LOOK

· Step 6: Prepare Project for Low Fire Fusible Glass Decals
It is important to follow the instructions that come with your decals! Keeping you glass free of oil from your fingers is important.  Cut each letter from the decals leaving a little white edge.  Place 1 or 2 pieces of the decals at a time, in a small amount of clean water and using a pair of tweezers take the decal out of the water when it starts to curl.  Using a tooth pick, hold slide the decal of the paper back and position on the glass where you want it. It is important to remove any air from under the decal.  Some people like to use a squeegee but if you use too much water the decal may slide around (if yes blot with the corner of a paper towel)  You can also use the side of your tooth pick to smooth out the decal.  Let dry completely, over night is preferable, before the final firing. Even the smallest amount of moisture can steam the decal from the glass surface, resulting in a partial transfer.

Repeat and apply the Flower Sprig Decals at even heights above and below the letters.

Note:  Make sure you are lining up the letters in a straight line and they are evenly spaced.

· Step 7: Firing your Fusible Glass Decals

This project used the Low Fire Glass Decals. Ramp up your kiln slowly while vented, until your reach 1,000 °F, then close your kiln and fire according the the full fusing schedule below.  Ramping slowly is much better than a quick fire to allow plenty of time for burn off and venting.

· Step 8:  Place into Kiln Using Fingers around outer edges of the fusible glass project or better yet wear latex gloves, pick up and place the project on the kiln shelf paper/shelf.   Leave a minimum of 1/2" (13 mm) space between each project to ensure they do not touch and fuse together.

· Step 9: Kiln Firing Process- Low Fire Decal Fuse

LOW FIRE GOLD DECAL  / FERRO GOLD PEN - APPLICATION

Process Temp/Min Desired Temp Soak Temp Action
Increase/Temp   15°F/ 9°C 1,000°F / 538°C 1 Min. Remove Vent
Increase/Temp  15°F/ 9°C 1,250°F / 690°C 3+ or 3- Min.  Observe
Flash/Cool 15°F/ 9°C 1,100°F / 550°C 0 Min. Open & Close Lid
Hold/Temp   5°F/ 3°C 955°F / 513°C 20 min. Hold Fire
Cool/Temp   Do Nothing 100°F / 38°C N/A DO NOT LOOK

· Step 10: Prepare Fused Project
If possible, leave the kiln sit unopened until the next day so your project has had plenty of time to anneal back to room temperature  and it is ready to use. Use abrasives on any rough edges you need to smooth.  If you do find you need to do a lot of abrasive or use a grinder you may need to refire the finished piece to polish the edges.

· Step 11: Adding Jewelry Findings

Attach the Metal Pin Bar using the Triolyse glue.  Make sure the glass is clean and dry and when placing it on the center, back side.  Maximum strength is reached after 6 hours. (Read the Tips & Tricks for using Triolyse Glue)
