Small Fused Project step-by-step instructions:
Clean Up Supplies:
· Rubbing Alcohol, Dish Washing Detergent
· Cloth with very little lint (old T-shirt) |
|
Step 1
- Preparation:
Clean Glass using Alcohol or Dish Washing
Detergent. Then dry and set aside on a clean piece of
paper or cardboard.
·
Clean bails to ensure manufacturing oils are removed.
· Clean & Prep Kiln:
· Apply Kiln Wash (Shelf Primer)
· Cut Shelf Paper to fit shelf
· Place Kiln Shelf Supports, Shelf
and Shelf Paper into Kiln
|
Step 2: Prepare Project for Fusible Glass Decals
Draw on the back side of the decal with a pencil for
the Pendant & Earring glass. Cut out decals and
remove protective tissue covering. Soak for
approximately 20 to 30 seconds and then slide Platinum Fiber High
Fire decal to surface of White glass and cover with the
Blue Glass cap. The Pattern will show thru blue but
not the platinum.
It is
important to follow the instructions that come
with your decals! Keeping you glass free of oil from your
fingers is very important. Place in a small amount of clean
water and using a pair of tweezers take the decal out of
the water when it starts to curl. Using the side of a tooth
pick, hold slide the decal of the paper back and position
on the glass where you want it. It is important to remove
any air from under the decal. Some people like to
use a squeegee but the side of a tooth pick will also
work. If you use too much water the decal may
slide around (if this occurs, blot with the corner of a paper
towel to wick away the extra moisture). Let dry completely, over
night is preferable, before the final firing. Even the
smallest amount of moisture can steam the decal from the
glass surface, resulting in a partial transfer.
|
Step
3: Put Glass project together
· If you find the blue glass is not adhering to the
white base and decal, you can us a toothpick to put a
"tiny" drop of Elmer's glue to (near an outer
edge, not the center) to adhere the glass together.
· Position each piece of glass evenly on top of each
other and let sit for a few minutes.
|
|
Step 4: Place into Kiln
Using Fingers around outer edges
of the fusible glass project or better yet wear latex
gloves, pick up and place the project on the kiln shelf
paper/shelf. Leave a minimum of 1/2"
(13 mm) space between each project to ensure they do not
touch and fuse together.

6: Prepare Fused Project
If possible, leave the kiln sit unopened
until the next day so your project has had plenty of
time to anneal back to room temperature and it is
ready to use. Use abrasives on any rough edges you need
to smooth. If you do find you need to do a lot of
abrasive or use a grinder you may need to refire the
finished piece to polish the edges. |
|
Step 7: Adding Bail & Earring Drop Loop
Always start with clean glass
and bails to remove any oils. Apply Triolyse glue
(Read
the Tips & Tricks for using Triolyse Glue) and
make sure to center the bail. Press for 20 to 30
seconds.
The glue with reach
it's maximum strength in 6 hours.
Attach
Earrings Pieces:
Attach
the Earring drop loop bail to the center of one piece or the
earring. Make sure you leave the eye hang over the
outside of the glass so you can attach a Jump Ring.
Attached
a drop loop bail to the second half of the earring in the
top center (so it will line up with the eye of drop loop
earring bail.
Spread
a Jump Ring and thread the upper and lower eyes and then
close the Jump Ring to complete the dangle portion of the
earring.
Attach
Pendant Pieces:
Attach
the bail of choice to the center of the largest piece.
Attach
2 drop loops to the lower portion, making sure you leave
the eyes hang over the outside edge of the glass to allow
connection a Jump Ring. Do the same for the small
pendant piece and make sure the eyes match to the larger
top piece.
Spread
a Jump Ring and thread the upper and lower eyes and then
close the Jump Ring, repeat for the second to complete the
dangle portion of the pendant.
