Small Fused Project step-by-step instructions:

Clean Up Supplies:

· Rubbing Alcohol, Dish Washing Detergent
· Cloth with very little lint (old T-shirt)

· Step 1:  Preparation
· Clean Glass using Alcohol or Dish Washing Detergent. Then dry and set aside on a clean piece of paper or cardboard.

· Clean & Prep Kiln:
    · Apply Kiln Wash (Shelf Primer)
    · Cut Shelf Paper to fit shelf
    · Place Kiln Shelf Supports, Shelf and Shelf Paper into Kiln

· Step 2: Put Glass project together

· Cut 2 strips of your Dichroic glass the same width of the longest part of the body. The longest one stays for the top to bottom body and then cut the other strip into 2 small pieces for the left and right arms of the cross.

· Grind each corner for the out edges to help them round when the clear glass fuses to the dichroic glass strips.

· Use Toothpick or plastic Cocktail fork to put a "tiny" drop of glue to adhere the dichroic glass strips to the clear top piece of jewelry glass together. You do not need to use the glue but if you are making many pieces of fused glass jewelry at the same time it will make you life easier when moving or positioning them in the kiln.

· Make sure each piece of glass is evenly positioned on top of each other and let sit for a few minutes.

· Step 3: Note:  It is important to note that you need to make sure to touch all glass pieces by the outer edges to avoid finger oil or prints on the surface of the glass from your fingers.

· Step 4:  Place into Kiln Using Fingers around outer edges of the fusible glass project or better yet wear latex gloves, pick up and place the project on the kiln shelf paper/shelf.   Leave a minimum of 1/2" (13 mm) space between each project to ensure they do not touch and fuse together.

· Step 5: Kiln Firing Process- Full Fuse

SMALL PROJECTS  ·  FULL FUSE  ·  2 LAYERS

Process Temp/Min Desired Temp Soak Temp Action
Increase/Temp   30°F/ 18°C 1,000°F / 535°C 1 Min. Remove Vent
Increase/Temp   Full Speed 1,400°F / 815°C 10+ or 10- Min.  Observe
Flash/Cool Highest Speed 1,100°F / 590°C 0 Min. Open & Close Lid
Hold/Temp   5°F/ 3°C 955°F / 513°C 10 min. Hold Fire
Cool/Temp   Do Nothing 100°F / 38°C N/A DO NOT LOOK

· Step 6: Prepare Fused Project
If possible, leave the kiln sit unopened until the next day so your project has had plenty of time to anneal back to room temperature  and it is ready to use. Use abrasives on any rough edges you need to smooth.  If you do find you need to do a lot of abrasive or use a grinder you may need to refire the finished piece to polish the edges.

Step7: Adding Bail

Attach the Bail on the back of the glass using the Triolyse glue.  Make sure the glass is clean and dry and when placing it on the center, back side, and hold in position for 2 minutes.  Maximum strength is reached after 6 hours.
