Small Fused Project step-by-step instructions:

Clean Up Supplies:

· Rubbing Alcohol, Dish Washing Detergent
· Cloth with very little lint (old T-shirt)

· Step 1: Remove Glass. To keep from breaking the precut pieces of glass, remove them from the package using an X-acto knife.

Decide how you will hang your ornament.

NOTE: If you choose the
High Temperature Wire #17:  Item# 41184  then you will need to cut and shape the wire to be placed under the project when putting into the kiln so the Glass will fuse over it.

· Step 2:  Preparation
· Clean Glass using Alcohol or Dish Washing Detergent. Then dry and set aside on a clean piece of paper or cardboard.

· Clean & Prep Kiln:
    · Apply Kiln Wash (Shelf Primer)
    · Cut Shelf Paper to fit shelf
    · Place Kiln Shelf Supports, Shelf and Shelf Paper into Kiln

· Step 3: Put Glass project together

· Cut the longest edge flat to shape the top of Black Pot of Gold.  Grind the rest of the glass until you are happy the shape is what you envision you Pot of Gold should look like. (clean glass after grinding)
Option: Cut out a black pot out of the solid black decal.

· Use Toothpick or plastic Cocktail fork to put 3 "tiny" drops of glue position the Glass Shamrock and the black glass for the Pot of Gold on top of the clear 3 in circle.

· Cut out each of the smallest Celtic knots to represent each of the gold coins.  Apply them as instructed in our Tips and Tricks: "Tips for successful application and firing fusible Decals to your glass."

Ramp up your kiln slowly while venting, until your reach 1,000 °F, then close your kiln and fire according the fuse schedule below. Ramping slowly is much better than a quick fire to allow plenty of time for burn off.

· Step 4: Note:  It is important to note that you need to make sure to touch all glass pieces by the outer edges to avoid finger oil or prints on the surface of the glass.

· Step 5:  Place into Kiln Using Fingers around outer edges of the fusible glass project or better yet wear latex gloves, pick up and place the project on the kiln shelf paper/shelf.   Leave a minimum of 1/2" (13 mm) space between each project to ensure they do not touch and fuse together.

· Step 6:  Kiln Firing Process- Full Fuse

SMALL PROJECTS  ·  FULL FUSE  ·  2 LAYERS

Process Temp/Min Desired Temp Soak Temp Action
Increase/Temp   30°F/ 18°C 1,000°F / 535°C 1 Min. Remove Vent
Increase/Temp   Full Speed 1,400°F / 815°C 10+ or 10- Min.  Observe
Flash/Cool Highest Speed 1,100°F / 590°C 0 Min. Open & Close Lid
Hold/Temp   5°F/ 3°C 955°F / 513°C 10 min. Hold Fire
Cool/Temp   Do Nothing 100°F / 38°C N/A DO NOT LOOK

· Step 7:  Prepare Fused Project
If possible, leave the kiln sit unopened until the next day so your project has had plenty of time to anneal back to room temperature  and it is ready to use. Use abrasives on any rough edges you need to smooth.  If you do find you need to do a lot of abrasive or use a grinder you may need to refire the finished piece to polish the edges.

· Step 8:  Adding Jewelry Findings

This project uses a Gold Jewelry Bail which is glued to the back of the pendant using Triolyse glue.  The earrings are are using Pierced Earring Discs glued with Triolyse glue and Earring Reinforce Discs.  Glass earrings can be heavier than most earrings.  A single layer glass will not necessarily require earring reinforce discs but 2 layers would require reinforce discs to keep the hearing laying nicely on the ear and not sagging.
