· 1 piece of clear COE 90 or 96 glass for base depending upon the piece of scrap glass you are using for the top. Dimensions: 2 1/2 inches x 1/2" inch wide. 

· 2 pieces of scrap glass (we use deep red and amber (Florida State University Colors) on clear glass) each is exactly 1/2 the width of the base x 4 inches. (Example: The clear base is 1/2 inch wide then each color strip would be 1/4 inch wide)

We use Low Fire Gold Glass Decal, Sampler 2 for the feathers.

Clean Up Supplies:

· Rubbing Alcohol, Dish Washing Detergent
· Cloth with very little lint (old T-shirt)

Step 1: Preparation
Clean Glass: Using Alcohol or Dish Washing Detergent. Then dry and set aside on a clean piece of paper or cardboard. 

Prep Mold: Apply a good coat of kiln wash to the mold set aside to dry. 
Clean & Prep Kiln Shelf: Apply Kiln Wash (Shelf Primer) or cut an 8 inch square of shelf paper.

Prep Base and Glass Top: Grind all 4 corners of the clear base and the scrap glass only the outside edges (not the sides that meet).  This will encourage nice round ends on the glass tie pin.  Clean and dry.

Step 2:  Position Glass: 

Using just a tiny spec of Elmer's™ Glue, position the top pieces centered on the glass base. Make sure the colors that meet are tightly meeting.

Tip: It is important to note that you need to make sure to touch all glass pieces by the outer edges to avoid finger oil or prints on the surface of the glass. 

Step 3:  Place Project into Kiln: Using Fingers around outer edges of the fusible glass project or better yet wear latex gloves, pick up and place the project on the kiln shelf paper/shelf and run a full fuse.

Step 5: Adding Low Fire Gold Decal and Ferro Goldrush Pen
It is important to keep your glass free of oil and from your fingers in order to have a clean surface to write on. 

You can easily add real gold accents to fused glass jewelry or ceramic art using the Ferro Goldrush, gold paint pen. They apply like a felt tip marker and are compatible will any COE glass. We drew the arrow head and the shaft of the arrow and used the Low Fire Fusible Gold Decals for the feathers. 

Tip: It can be difficult to hand draw a straight line on a small surface, try a small piece of stiff paper held tightly across the glass to act as a guide.  It is difficult to see the gold being applied.  Test you pen on a piece of white paper to see if is properly distributing and then apply to glass but resist going back over the same area twice as this can make the gold streaky or come out with a more matted brown appearance.

Tip:  Read our Tips and Tricks Instructions for more details on use. It is important to note that when applying to any colored or clear glass, it is difficult to see so you may want to create a paper template and fill in with the pen.  

Fire on top of or between layers to 1050F - 1150F (bonds at 1112 degrees F)

Step 6: Firing your Fusible Glass Decals

This project used the Low FIRE Glass Decals. Ramp up your kiln slowly while vented, until your reach 1,000 °F, then close your kiln and fire according the tac fuse schedule below.  Ramping slowly is much better than a quick fire to allow plenty of time for burn off and venting.  

HOT GLASS TIPS (for Decals): 

- Keep your decals stored in a dry place on their side and not on top of one another.

- Keep your Hi Fire Glass Decals and your Low Fire Glass Decals separately stored, perhaps in well marked envelopes.

- Mark each envelope with the colors/types as well.  Example:  Gold - Low Fire Glass Decals,  Platinum - High Fire Glass Decals, etc.

Step 7:  Place into Kiln & FIRE: Using Fingers around outer edges of the fusible glass project or better yet wear latex gloves, pick up and place the project on the kiln shelf paper/shelf.   Leave a minimum of 1/2" (13 mm) space between each project to ensure they do not touch and fuse together.

Step 8: Adding Tie Clip

Attach the Tie Clip on the back of the glass using the Triolyse glue.  Make sure the glass is clean and dry and when placing it on the center, back side, and hold in position for 2 minutes.  Maximum strength is reached after 6 hours.
