SMALL: FREE FUSED GLASS PROJECT
Step-By-Step Instructions & Glass How To information

Step 1 - Preparation
· Clean Glass and bail using Alcohol or Dish Washing Detergent. Then dry and set aside on a clean piece of paper or cardboard.

· Cut out Butterfly Decal

· Clean & Prep Kiln & Mold:
    · Apply Kiln Wash (Shelf Primer)
    · Cut Shelf Paper to fit shelf
    · Place Kiln Shelf Supports, Shelf and Shelf Paper into Kiln

Step 2:  Place into Kiln Position the glass ovals together placing the Clear Dichroic butterfly in the middle and use a small spec of Glastac adhesive if necessary to hold them together.  Let dry 10 minutes.

Note: when firing a smaller piece of glass in the center, you should consider placing a few clear stringers in-between the glass above and below the smaller piece to allow air to escape when fusing and not captured around the smaller glass piece.  Make sure to not have the glass stringer hanging out over the edges but cut to fir the size of the larger base glass.

Using Fingers around outer edges of the fusible glass project or better yet wear latex gloves, pick up and place the project on the kiln shelf paper/shelf.   Leave a minimum of 1/2" (13 mm) space between each project to ensure they do not touch and fuse together.

Step 3: Full Fuse

SMALL PROJECTS  ·  FULL FUSE  ·  2 LAYERS

Process Temp/Min Desired Temp Soak Temp Action
Increase/Temp   30°F/ 18°C 1,000°F / 535°C 1 Min. Remove Vent
Increase/Temp   Full Speed 1,400°F / 815°C 10+ or 10- Min.  Observe
Flash/Cool Highest Speed 1,100°F / 590°C 0 Min. Open & Close Lid
Hold/Temp   5°F/ 3°C 955°F / 513°C 10 min. Hold Fire
Cool/Temp   Do Nothing 100°F / 38°C N/A DO NOT LOOK

Step 4: Put Glass project together  (See Glass Tips & Tricks section: How to use Fusible Glass COLOR Decals)

Place decal in a small amount of clean water and using a pair of tweezers take the decal out of the water when it starts to curl about 10 seconds.  Slide off of the paper backing and place the Humming Bird Decal on the base larger of glass and then the larger onto the surface of the clear glass, smooth out any air bubbles.  Allow to dry completely.

Using Fingers around outer edges of the fusible glass project or better yet wear latex gloves, pick up and place the project on the kiln shelf paper/shelf.   Leave a minimum of 1/2" (13 mm) space between each project to ensure they do not touch and fuse together.

Step 5: Tack Fuse

SMALL/MEDIUM PROJECTS  ·  TACK FUSE

Process Temp/Min Desired Temp Soak Temp Action
Increase/Temp   15°F/ 9°C 1,000°F / 538°C 1 Min. Remove Vent
Increase/Temp   Full Speed 1,350°F / 776°C 10+ or 10- Min.  Observe

Step 6: Adding Jewelry Findings

Attach the metal finding using the Triolyse glue.  Make sure the glass is clean and dry and when placing it on the center, back side.  Maximum strength is reached after 6 hours. (Read the Tips & Tricks for using Triolyse Glue)
