Note: If you do not get a full slump, you can
ramp up another 5 degrees (never more than 20 degrees more) and never hold more than 20 minutes
at any temperature.
|
|
If possible, leave the kiln sit unopened
until the next day so your project has had plenty of
time to anneal back to room temperature.
|
|
Step
5: Adding Leaves and Stems
-
(Optional) Create Glass Leaves See:
Fused Glass Leaves for Flower Projects
- If you chose to make
leave, simply wire wrap them around the stem tightly. |
|
- To adhere your glass stem to your flower your will
have a way to support the glass rod while the glue
dries. We used a clear plastic jar cut in half
with a hole, centered, in the bottom so that you could
see the positioning of the glass road and flower.
You could easily use a large paper cup.
Make sure the
end of the glass rod and the bottom of the flower is
flat (grind if necessary, clean and dry.
- Place a large drop of E6000, centered on the bottom of
the flower. ( See note below)
- Place the glass rod thru the cup bottom and slide it
out far enough to touch the glue. Turn it in a
clock-wise direction until the end of the rod is coated
well.
- Center the rod and the cup and allow to sit
undisturbed for 24 hours until glue is set.
Note: Option
over E6000 glue:
Using
Triolyse glue.
Make sure that your activator is not dark brown as it
will at the end of its life expectancy and you want a
full strength bond. You will need to apply the
activator to the bottom of the flower and the end of the
stem and allow to set a least a full minute before
applying the glue to one of the pieces of glass and hold
firmly and steady for at least 1 minute. Maximum
strength is reached after 6 hours. But we would
suggest using the support structure as described above to hold
the glass rod in position and that you make sure that
you have ground both items to ensure a flat surface
before attempting to adhere together.
