Step-By-Step Instructions & Glass How To information

Step 1 - Preparation
· Clean Glass:  using Alcohol or Dish Washing Detergent. Then dry and set aside on a clean piece of paper or cardboard.

· Clean & Prep Kiln & Mold:
    · Apply Kiln Wash (Shelf Primer)
    · Cut Shelf Paper to fit shelf
    · Place Kiln Shelf Supports, Shelf and Shelf Paper into Kiln

Step 2:  Prepare Glass
Trace Compact Box onto paper.  Then use place the paper onto the top of the box (the side with the indent) and fold the edges to fit inside the indented area.  Now cut at the fold lines and use this as your pattern to know what size to cut your clear thin glass square.

Create your transparent Frit balls to form dots on the wings. (Tips and Tricks on How to Make Glass Frit Balls.)

- Using a tiny spec of Elmer's Glue add Glass Frit balls to the wings of the Dichroic Butterfly.  Break a small piece of black stringer to form the butterfly body and use a tiny spec of Elmer's Glue to position pieces of stringer in place.

- Break Blue Glass Noodle to make a boarder around the outer edges of the Thin Clear glass and use a tiny spec of Elmer's glue to hold them in place.

Let all pieces dry for at least 10 minutes.

Step 3: Assemble
Position the butterfly in the center of the clear thin square.  We positioned ours at an angle and centered
and use a tiny spec of Elmer's glue on the outer edges to hold into place.

Step 4:  Place Project into Kiln
Using fingers around the outer edges of the box sides or better yet wear latex gloves pick up and place on the kiln shelf.

Step 5:  Tack Fuse

Use the below tack fuse firing schedule.

Step 6: Finish Project - Clean and dry the glass. Apply Triolyse glue to the bottom side of the thin clear glass under the blue stringer, positioning it carefully in the center of the indented area of the silver plated box. The glue will reach its maximum strength in 6 hours.
