Note: This project is done with only 1 layer of glass, it makes it very light to wear on your ears and neck.

Small Fused Project step-by-step instructions:

Clean Up Supplies:

· Rubbing Alcohol, Dish Washing Detergent
· Cloth with very little lint (old T-shirt)

· Step 1: Remove Glass. To keep from breaking the precut pieces of glass, remove them from the package using an X-acto knife.

· Step 2 - Preparation
· Clean Glass using Alcohol or Dish Washing Detergent. Then dry and set aside on a clean piece of paper or cardboard. 

· Clean & Prep Kiln: 
    · Apply Kiln Wash (Shelf Primer)
    · Cut Shelf Paper to fit shelf
    · Place Kiln Shelf Supports, Shelf and Shelf Paper into Kiln

· Step 3: Prepare Project for Fusible Glass Decals
It is important to follow the instructions that come with your decals! Keeping you glass free of oil from your fingers is important.  Cut the decals leaving a little white edge.  Place in a small amount of clean water and using a pair of tweezers take the decal out of the water when it starts to curl.  Using a tooth pick, hold slide the decal of the paper back and position on the glass where you want it. It is important to remove any air from under the decal.  Some people like to use a squeegee but if you use too much water the decal may slide around (if yes blot with the corner of a paper towel)  You can also use the side of your tooth pick to smooth out the decal.  Let dry completely, over night is preferable, before the final firing. Even the smallest amount of moisture can steam the decal from the glass surface, resulting in a partial transfer.

Note:  It is important to note that you need to make sure to touch all glass pieces by the outer edges to avoid finger oil or prints on the surface of the glass from your fingers.

· Step 5:  Place into Kiln Using Fingers around outer edges of the fusible glass project or better yet wear latex gloves, pick up and place the project on the kiln shelf paper/shelf.   Leave a minimum of 1/2" (13 mm) space between each project to ensure they do not touch and fuse together.

· Step 6: Firing your Fusible Glass Decals

This project used the GOLD LOW FIRE Glass Decals. Ramp up your kiln slowly while vented, until your reach 1,000 °F, then close your kiln and fire until temperature reaches 1,075 to 1,140 °F.  Ramping slowly is much better than a quick fire to allow plenty of time for burn off and venting.  Then turn off kiln and leave the kiln sit unopened until the next day so your project has had plenty of time to anneal back to room temperature

HOT GLASS TIPS (for Decals): 

- Keep your decals stored in a dry place on their side and not on top of one another.

- Keep your Hi Fire Glass Decals and your Low Fire Glass Decals separately stored, perhaps in well marked envelopes.

- Mark each envelop with the colors/types as well.  Example:  Gold - Low Fire Glass Decals,  Platinum - High Fire Glass Decals, etc.

· Step 7: Kiln Firing Process- Fire Polish  

· Step 10: Adding Jewelry Findings

Attach the metal finding using the Triolyse glue.  Make sure the glass is clean and dry and when placing it on the center, back side.  Maximum strength is reached after 6 hours. (Read the Tips & Tricks for using Triolyse Glue)

Clean your glass and dry it. This project uses a Gold Jewelry Bail which is glued to the back of the pendant using Triolyse glue.  (Above) The earrings are are using Pierced Earring Discs glued with Triolyse glue and Earring Reinforce Discs for the backings.  The dangle portion of the earring requires some basic jewelry wire wrapping skills. Example (Top Right) shows a finished loop.  (See Glass Tips and Tricks: How to Create a Wire Loop) 

Hang small loop over post of earring and slide on earring back.

Note: for the the wire, you should place another piece of glass of equal thickness under the loop to keep it level and not to strain or droop. 

Note: The earrings are are using Pierced Earring Reinforce Discs.  Glass earrings can be heavier than most earrings.  A single layer glass will not necessarily require earring reinforce discs but 2 layers would require reinforce discs to keep the hearing laying nicely on the ear and not sagging.
