Small Fused Project step-by-step instructions:

Clean Up Supplies:

· Rubbing Alcohol, Dish Washing Detergent
· Cloth with very little lint (old T-shirt)

Step 1: Preparation
· Clean Glass:  using Alcohol or Dish Washing Detergent. Then dry and set aside on a clean piece of paper or cardboard.

· Clean & Prep Kiln:
    · Apply Kiln Wash (Shelf Primer)
    · Cut Shelf Paper to fit shelf
    · Place Kiln Shelf Supports, Shelf and Shelf Paper into Kiln

Step 2 – Prepare Glass
Cut 6 x 6” white glass squares into 4 rectangles of 3 inches x 2 1/2 inches. Run a grinder over all sides and round the corners.

Step 3 – Assemble Glass:  Using Fuser's Glue, apply a tiny drop of glue to each precut and center it on each white base glass rectangle.  Then break stringers for each precut and using a tiny drop of Fuser's Glue to position.  Let dry before moving.

If so desired, decorate with colors from Glassline paints.  Let dry.

Step 4 - Place into Kiln Using Fingers around outer edges of the fusible glass project or  wear latex gloves, pick up and place the project on the kiln shelf paper/shelf.   Leave a minimum of 1/2" (13 mm) space between each project to ensure they do not touch and fuse together.

SMALL/MEDIUM PROJECTS  ·  TACK FUSE

Step 5 – Place Project into Kiln for Slump

Place mold on small kiln posts to it is elevated slightly in the kiln. Wrap with thin fire paper. This allows for proper air flow around the mold during the slumping process. Place project on mold and slump using the below schedule.

SMALL/MEDIUM PROJECTS  ·  SLUMP

Process Temp/Min Desired Temp Soak Temp Action
Increase/Temp   15°F/ 7°C 1,000°F / 538°C 1 Min. Remove Vent
Increase/Temp   Full Speed 1,430°F / 777°C 10+ or 10- Min.  Observe
Flash/Cool Highest Speed 1,100°F / 593°C 0 Min. Open & Close Lid
Hold/Temp   5°F/ 3°C 955°F / 513°C 30 min. Hold Fire
Decrease/Temp   3°F/ 2°C 750°F / 400°C 1 min. DO NOT LOOK
Cool/Temp   Do Nothing 100°F / 38°C N/A DO NOT LOOK

Note: If you do not get a full slump, you can ramp up another 5 degrees (never more than 20 degrees more) and never hold more than 20 minutes at any temperature.

If possible, leave the kiln sit unopened until the next day so your project has had plenty of time to anneal back to room temperature. Place mold on small kiln posts to it is elevated slightly in the kiln. This allows for proper air flow around the mold during the slumping process. Place project on mold and slump using the below schedule.

Step 6 Adding Jewelry Findings

Using a pair of needle nose pliers, bend arm over rubber hair band and attach the metal finding using the Triolyse glue to the center inside of of the glass.  Wait until adhesive has reached full strength and repeat for opposite side.  Make sure the glass is clean and dry and when placing it on the center, back side.  Maximum strength is reached after 6 hours.
