· Cold Polishing - (one of the following)
· Grinder
· Abrasive Stone
· Diamond Nail File
· 3M™ Diamond Coated Sanding Sponges
Clean Up Supplies:
· Rubbing Alcohol, Dish Washing Detergent
· Cloth with very little lint (old T-shirt)
Step 1 - Preparation
· Clean Glass:
using Alcohol or Dish Washing
Detergent. Then dry and set aside on a clean piece of
paper or cardboard.
·
Cut out
black decals to form the owl and curved shapes to form the branches
and set aside.
Note:
we used a pin to poke 2 holes where we wanted the eyes after the
decal was applied and dried.
· Clean & Prep Kiln:
· Apply Kiln Wash (Shelf Primer) to
shelf and mold
· Cut Shelf Paper to fit shelf & one
to drape over mold later
· Place Kiln Shelf Supports, Shelf
and Shelf Paper into Kiln
Step 2 - Position Glass: Place white circle
over larger clear circle and using
Glastac position and let dry.
Step 3 - Apply Dicro Slide
tm
& Decals: Soak scraps of Dicro Slide in water
for 20 seconds and slide onto surface of a precut white circle
over let dry. Smooth out any air bubbles.
Note: placing decals up against the circle and over
the surface gives it more of a 3D look.
Step 4 - Painting the Glass:
Turn glass over and on the back side squirt on some dark
blue. Using your brush and some water paint back
and forth in a diagonal pattern. For a softer
look add more water to your brush. It is ok if
there are section where the blue paint is slightly
thicker and streaky. Wait until it is tacky and
then add a few random drops of yellow. Light brush
them in the same diagonal pattern.
Note: We
used the end of the handle to place 2 drops of yellow
paint on the face for the eyes over the tiny holes we
made in the decal with a pin.
Let dry
completely.
