Small Fused Project step-by-step instructions:

Clean Up Supplies:

· Rubbing Alcohol, Dish Washing Detergent
· Cloth with very little lint (old T-shirt)

Step 1 - Preparation
· Clean Glass:  using Alcohol or Dish Washing Detergent. Then dry and set aside on a clean piece of paper or cardboard.

· Clean & Prep Kiln:
    · Apply Kiln Wash (Shelf Primer)
    · Cut Shelf Paper to fit shelf
    · Place Kiln Shelf Supports, Shelf and Shelf Paper into Kiln

Step 2: Prepare Project
Break or Cut Clear scrap and other colors to be used to form a 7 inch round circle.
Note: Any clear, white, etc. precut circle could also be used for the base if you do not wish to use fusible scrap glass.

Place the bowl mold upside down on a piece of thin fire and using a pencil draw around it onto the thin fire.

Place the thin fire onto the kiln shelf, positioned in the kiln.

Assemble the glass in the kiln.  Lay out the scraps for the base glass as desired making sure to contain it inside the circle.  Layer the clear on the bottom and make sure to over lap so you do not have any gaps or holes.  Then layer the colored glass over the clear base and make sure to overlap edges.

Note: You can use tiny specs of Elmer's glue to hold position of glass as needed.

Let parts dry for at least 10 minutes to make sure they do not move.

Step 3: Add Enhancements

If desired you can use Glass Stringer, Confetti, or Frit, by placing them thru out the piece.

Step 4:  Place into Kiln
Leave a minimum of 1/2" (13 mm) space between each project to ensure they do not touch and fuse together.

Step 5: Kiln Firing Process- Full Fuse

MEDIUM PROJECTS  ·  FULL FUSE  ·  2 LAYERS

Process Temp/Min Desired Temp Soak Temp Action
Increase/Temp   12°F/ 7°C 1,000°F / 538°C 1 Min. Remove Vent

If possible, leave the kiln sit unopened until the next day so your project has had plenty of time to anneal back to room temperature  and it is ready to use.

Step 6: Slumping Process- Grind any edges that are rough, or any that might hang over the edges of the mold.  Clean glass and Place it on the kiln washed mold in the kiln and centered over it.

MEDIUM PROJECTS  ·  FULL SLUMP  ·  2 LAYERS

Process Temp/Min Desired Temp Soak Temp Action
Increase/Temp   12°F/ 7°C 1,000°F / 538°C 1 Min. Remove Vent

Decrease/Temp   3°F/ 2°C 750°F / 400°C 1 min. DO NOT LOOK
Cool/Temp   Do Nothing 100°F / 38°C N/A DO NOT LOOK
