Small Fused Project step-by-step instructions:

Step 1:  Preparation
- Clean Glass using Alcohol or Dish Washing Detergent. Then dry and set aside on a clean piece of paper or cardboard.

- Cut COE 96 striped glass into 1 inch by 3/4 inch wide pieces.

- For COE 90 cut white glass 1 inch by 3/4 inch wide.  Snap black, lavender and pink stringer and using a tiny spec of Elmer's glue position onto each rectangle of white glass.  Make sure that the stringer does not hang over.

Step 2:  Position Glass

- Using a tiny spec of Elmer’s Glue position heart in center of clear heart on top or under. (If under you may capture air as in picture).  Position clear heart on top of white heart. Let dry for at least 10 minutes or until flowers do not move.

- Using a tiny spec of Elmer’s Glue position each striped glass rectangle around the out lip of the heart on top of the clear glass.  Fill in gaps if you like with pieces of stringer.  Let dry for at least 10 minutes or until flowers do not move.

- Snap longer pieces of stringer in Pink or Lavender so it goes from the heart to the striped glass stripes and hold into position with a tiny spec of Elmer's glue.

· Clean & Prep Kiln:
    · Apply Kiln Wash (Shelf Primer)
    · Cut Shelf Paper 1/2 inch larger than the circles
    · Place Kiln Shelf Supports, Shelf and Shelf Paper into Kiln

· Prep Molds: Apply a good coat of kiln wash to the mold, set aside to dry.

Step 3: Full Fuse

Set the 3 layered prepared heart into the kiln to fire. Tip: It is important to note that you need to make sure to touch all glass pieces by the outer edges to avoid finger oil or prints on the surface of the glass.

Place the handle in the kiln.

Place on top of the kiln shelf paper/shelf and full fuse.

SMALL PROJECTS  ·  FULL FUSE  ·  2 LAYERS

Process Temp/Min Desired Temp Soak Temp Action
Increase/Temp   30°F/ 18°C 1,000°F / 535°C 1 Min. Remove Vent
Increase/Temp   Full Speed 1,400°F / 815°C 10+ or 10- Min.  Observe
Flash/Cool Highest Speed 1,100°F / 590°C 0 Min. Open & Close Lid
Hold/Temp   5°F/ 3°C 955°F / 513°C 10 min. Hold Fire
Cool/Temp   Do Nothing 100°F / 38°C N/A DO NOT LOOK

If possible, leave the kiln sit unopened until the next day so your project has had plenty of time to anneal back to room temperature.
Step 4 - Prepare for Slump Process:
Take the kiln shelf out of the kiln. Using the kiln posts, set the kiln washed mold in the middle of the kiln.

NOTE: It is "Very" important that you slump at the slowest possible setting because this is a deep mold and the slower the better to control the drop.  The following schedule is a typical slump firing schedule.

MEDIUM PROJECTS  ·  FULL SLUMP  ·  2 LAYERS

Process Temp/Min Desired Temp Soak Temp Action
Increase/Temp   12°F/ 7°C 1,000°F / 538°C 1 Min. Remove Vent
Increase/Temp   12°F/ 7°C 1,310°F / 715°C 20 Min.  Observe
Flash/Cool Highest Speed 1,100°F / 593°C 0 Min. Open & Close Lid
Hold/Temp   5°F/ 3°C 955°F / 513°C 30 min. Hold Fire
Decrease/Temp   3°F/ 2°C 750°F / 400°C 1 min. DO NOT LOOK
Cool/Temp   Do Nothing 100°F / 38°C N/A DO NOT LOOK

Note: If you do not get a full slump, you can ramp up another 5 degrees but never hold more than 20 minutes.
