Step-By-Step Instructions & Glass How To information

Step 1: Preparation - Clean Glass: using Alcohol or Dish Washing Detergent. Then dry and set aside on a clean piece of paper or cardboard.

· Clean & Prep Kiln:
    · Apply Kiln Wash (Shelf Primer) to shelf and mold
    · Cut Shelf Paper to fit shelf
    · Place Kiln Shelf Supports, Shelf and Shelf Paper into Kiln

Step 2: Prepare Project for Fusible Glass Decals - Lay the cross over the front side of the decal and trace around each Celtic knot with a felt tip pen. Cut out each piece leaving a little white edge. Lay each piece over the "clear" cross until you are satisfied with the design.

It is important to follow the instructions that come with your decals! Keeping you glass free of oil from your fingers is important. Place in a small amount of clean water and using a pair of tweezers take the decal out of the water when it starts to curl, approximately 15 seconds.

Using a tooth pick, hold and slide the decal off the paper back and position it the "clear: glass where you want it. It is important to remove any air from under the decal. Some people like to use a squeegee but if you use too much water the decal may slide around (if yes blot with the corner of a paper towel to wick off the extra moisture). You can also use the side of your tooth pick to smooth out the decal but do so with very little pressure so as not to tear or damage the decal.

Let dry completely, over night is preferable, before firing in the kiln. Even the smallest amount of moisture can steam the decal from the glass surface, resulting in a partial transfer.

Step 3: Prepare Project for Dicro Slide tm - Lay the cross over the front side of the backside of the Dicro Slide tm and trace around the glass precut with a pencil. Cut out with scissors and set aside.

Keeping you glass free of oil from your fingers is important. Place in a small amount of clean water and using a pair of tweezers take the Dicro Slide tm out of the water when it starts to curl, approximately 15 seconds.

Using a tooth pick, hold and slide the Dicro Slide tm off the paper back and position it the white glass precut where you want it. It is important to remove any air from under the Dicro Slide tm. Some people like to use a squeegee but if you use too much water the decal may slide around (if yes blot with the corner of a paper towel to wick off the extra moisture). You can also use the side of your tooth pick to smooth out the surface but do so with very little pressure so as not to tear or damage the Dicro Slide tm.

Step 4: Layering of Glass - Take the glass precut with the decal and place on top of the cross with the Dicro Slide tm. Using a tiny spec of Elmer's glue on the 4 outer edges, position cross to match up and then let sit to dry about 10 minutes.

Note: It is important to note that you need to make sure to touch all glass pieces by the outer edges to avoid finger oil or prints on the surface of the glass from your fingers when using decals.

Step 5: Place into Kiln - Using Fingers around outer edges of the fusible glass project or better yet wear latex gloves, pick up and place the project on the kiln shelf paper/shelf.

Tip: This project used HIGH FIRE Glass Platinum Decal. Ramp up your kiln slowly while vented, until your reach 1,000 °F, then close your kiln and fire until temperature reaches 1,325 to 1,440 °F. Ramping slowly is much better than a quick fire to allow plenty of time for burn off and venting. Then turn off kiln and leave the kiln sit unopened until the next day so your project has had plenty of time to anneal back to room temperature

Tip 2: Crosses are delicate cuts of glass and you want to make sure you do not over fire them at the highest temperature or they will loose their shape. It is recommended that you do not fire them with larger pieces which require more soak time at the highest temperature.

Step 7: Finish Project -

If possible, leave the kiln sit unopened until the next day so your project has had plenty of time to anneal back to room temperature and it is ready to use. Use abrasives on any rough edges you need to smooth.

NOTE: If using a glue on bail to hang the glass, clean glass and dry. Attach the glass hanger finding to the top backside of the glass precut using the Triolyse glue. Maximum strength is reached after 6 hours.
