SMALL: FREE FUSED GLASS PROJECT
Step-By-Step Instructions & Glass How To information

Step 1:  Preparation - Clean Glass:  using Alcohol or Dish Washing Detergent. Then dry and set aside on a clean piece of paper or cardboard.

Clean & Prep Kiln:
    · Apply Kiln Wash (Shelf Primer) to shelf and mold
    · Cut Shelf Paper to fit shelf
    · Place Kiln Shelf Supports, Shelf and Shelf Paper into Kiln

Note: Decide how you will hang your glass pieces to determine if you should cut a piece of hi fire wire wire to create a U shape loop to place behind the the glass during firing or if you are going to glue a glass bail after firing.

Step 2: Position Glass & Paint - You can free hand paint your design easily.  Paint the back side of the egg with the yellow, let dry. (if using Glassline paint, we suggest thinning it down and applying with a sponge brush)

Depending upon how thick you paint on the back side will determine if it will be semi transparent or completely yellow. When you are certain it is completely dry, delicately flip over and place on a smooth surface so as not to scratch off any yellow paint.  Then paint the red dots and also let dry.

Step 3: Place into Kiln -  Using Fingers around outer edges of the fusible glass project or better yet wear latex gloves, pick up and place the project on the kiln shelf paper/shelf.

Note: I f using a U shape High Temp wire to hang, place it under the glass on the shelf and place a small piece of thin fire paper over the exposed end of the loop so the Glass will not fuse fuse over it and only bond to the straight ends.  Leave a minimum of 1/2" (13 mm) space between each project to ensure they do not touch and fuse together.

Step 4:  Kiln Firing Process- Full Fuse

SMALL PROJECTS  ·  FULL FUSE  ·  2 LAYERS

Process Temp/Min Desired Temp Soak Temp Action
Increase/Temp   30°F/ 18°C 1,000°F / 535°C 1 Min. Remove Vent
Increase/Temp   Full Speed 1,400°F / 815°C 10+ or 10- Min.  Observe
Flash/Cool Highest Speed 1,100°F / 590°C 0 Min. Open & Close Lid
Hold/Temp   5°F/ 3°C 955°F / 513°C 10 min. Hold Fire
Cool/Temp   Do Nothing 100°F / 38°C N/A DO NOT LOOK

Step 5:  Prepare Fused Project - If possible, leave the kiln sit unopened until the next day so your project has had plenty of time to anneal back to room temperature and it is ready to use. Use abrasives on any rough edges you need to smooth.

NOTE: If using a glue on bail to hang the glass, clean glass and dry.  Attach the glass hanger finding to the top backside of the glass precut using the Triolyse glue.  Maximum strength is reached after 6 hours.
