Other Materials:

· Cold Polishing - (one of the following)
· Grinder
· Abrasive Stone
· Diamond Nail File
· 3M™ Diamond Coated Sanding Sponges

Clean Up Supplies:

· Rubbing Alcohol, Dish Washing Detergent
· Cloth with very little lint (old T-shirt)

Step 1 - Preparation
· Clean Glass:  using Alcohol or Dish Washing Detergent. Then dry and set aside on a clean piece of paper or cardboard.

· Clean & Prep Kiln:
    · Apply Kiln Wash (Shelf Primer) to shelf and mold
    · Cut Shelf Paper to fit shelf
    · Place Kiln Shelf Supports, Shelf and Shelf Paper into Kiln

Decide how you will hang your glass pieces to determine wire loop placements:
NOTE: Precut 5 at 1/2 inch long of the
High Temperature Wire #17 and create U shapes for each piece wire.

Step 2 - Position Glass & Paint: Position each of precut glass pieces on the clear circle. This will let you know where you can paint the rainbow.  Use a fine line of the blue and draw the upper arch and the yellow to draw the inside of the yellow arch.  Remove the 2 precut glass designs to give you room to finish painting the rainbow.  You can paint the blue and yellow arches and let dry, approximately 10 minutes.  Then paint in the red, let dray and then finally paint the orange and also let dry.

Note: Once the rainbow is dry you can use the side edge of a tooth pic to clean up an of the out side edges of the blue and yellow and blow off any dry paint fragments.  Then using Glastac apply a tiny spec to each precut glass design and position on the clear circle.
Note: Position glass designs about 1/2 inch from edges in order to keep a curved edge on glass circle after fusing.  The wire will show thru the clear and transparent glass.  If you do not wish to see the wire you will need to paint over it or place a noodle to hide it prior to fusing.

Preparation of the hanging precut glass designs: Either adhere them to a clear base, we suggested the 1 3/8 clear oval or use clear string to fuse the pieces together.
Option 1: Place the precut glass design on the clear base and use
Glastac to bond all pieces together.
Option 2: (we used this option) Use Glastac to bond the glass design pieces together and then break clear string and use the Glastac to hold them in place on all seams.  This will allow the clear glass to fuse both pieces together.  It is a more time consuming process but the end results displays an individual precut glass design and it is less weight than fusing to a clear base.

Step 3  - Place into Kiln: Using Fingers around outer edges of the fusible glass project or better yet wear latex gloves, pick up and place the project on the kiln shelf paper/shelf.

Placed each U shape High Temp wire under the glass on the shelf and place a small piece of thin fire paper over the exposed end of the loop so the Glass will not fuse fuse over it and only bond to the straight ends.  Leave a minimum of 1/2" (13 mm) space between each project to ensure they do not touch and fuse together.

Step 4:  Kiln Firing Process- Full Fuse

SMALL PROJECTS  ·  FULL FUSE  ·  2 LAYERS

Process Temp/Min Desired Temp Soak Temp Action
Increase/Temp   30°F/ 18°C 1,000°F / 535°C 1 Min. Remove Vent
Increase/Temp   Full Speed 1,400°F / 815°C 10+ or 10- Min.  Observe
Flash/Cool Highest Speed 1,100°F / 590°C 0 Min. Open & Close Lid

Step 5:  Prepare Fused Project
If possible, leave the kiln sit unopened until the next day so your project has had plenty of time to anneal back to room temperature and it is ready to use. Use abrasives on any rough edges you need to smooth.

Clean glass and dry.  Cut Clear Monofilament (fishing line) at 2 different lenghts and tie each of the precut glass designs to the loops at the bottom of the glass circle.
